The Asaro are renowned for their ancient tribal performances, namely the practices of Mudmen and Skeleton, which originate from the time when warring tribes pretended to be spirits, scaring enemies. The Moko Moko performance is a war victory celebration dance.
As the Asaro tribe is no longer engaged in tribal warfare, these performances are now purely for entertainment and can be seen in their villages or at the Goroka Show. Nevertheless, many tribes in PNG, especially in Enga, still engage in conflicts, with a few rituals surviving the battles. Some traditional weaponry, like bows and spears, are still employed.
